Mud Hens drop series finale to Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Chiefs put an end to the Mud Hens' two-game winning streak last night, defeating Toledo 4-3 to conclude the teams' four-game set against one another at Alliance Bank Stadium.

The teams pounded out three homers in the second inning. Mud Hen Wilkin Ramirez's shot in the top of the inning brought home Brent Clevlen and Jeff Frazier, who doubled and singled on previous plays, giving the Hens a 3-0 lead.

Syracuse's Daryle Ward and Seth Bynum responded with back-to-back homers in the bottom of the inning. Later in the inning, Justin Maxwell tied the score when he came home on a Norris Hopper groundout.

Both teams went scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when Chiefs' rightfielder Kory Casto's double to center was followed by an RBI double from first baseman Mike Morse.

That turned out to be the game-winning run as the offenses were held scoreless the final four innings.

The Mud Hens have won nine of their last 12 games despite the loss and are just below .500 heading into a three-game set with the division-leading Louisville Bats at Slugger Field beginning tonight at 7.
