Figaro strong as Hens slip past Indy

INDIANAPOLIS - Toledo got a solid outing from starter Alfredo Figaro, and the relievers came through with clutch performances as the Mud Hens knocked off the Indians 3-2 Saturday night.

Figaro (2-0) went 51/3 innings, yielding no runs on three hits. Figaro also struck out four.

Relievers Daniel Schlereth, Jason Waddell, and Jay Sborz then gave up two runs over the final 32/3 innings.

First baseman Jeff Larish hit a solo home run and scored

another run for the Mud Hens (6-4).

Sborz earned his fourth save, taking just 12 pitches to work a scoreless final 11/3 innings.

Indianapolis (3-7) got a solo homer from Steve Pearce in the bottom of the eighth.

The Mud Hens scored first in the top of the fourth when Mike Rabelo doubled to right with two outs, plating Larish and Jeff Frazier.

Larish hit his second home run of the season in the eighth.

With runners on second and third in the sixth inning, Schlereth came in and struck out two batters to get Toledo out of the jam.

But the Indians got to Schlereth for one run by opening the seventh with a double and a single. Schlereth recovered with three straight outs to escape further damage.

Following Larish's solo shot, Indianapolis answered with Pearce's homer in the bottom of the eighth.

Toledo managed just six hits, including three doubles. The Indians finished with eight hits.

The teams meet again today at 2 p.m.
