Buckner has rough start in Hens' loss to Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Billy Buckner's first start for the Mud Hens was not a good one as Toledo lost to the Red Wings 8-4 at Frontier Field Saturday night.

Buckner, who came to the Detroit organization from Arizona in the trade for Dontrelle Willis, allowed 14 hits and eight earned runs in just 41/3 innings, walking one and uncorking three wild pitches.

The Hens scored a run in the second inning when Casper Wells tripled and Deik Scram singled him home, but the Red Wings got that run back in the bottom of the second when Matt Macri doubled and scored on a Brock Peterson double.

Rochester took the lead for good with four runs in the third inning. Buckner gave up singles to Luke Hughes, Brian Dinkelman, and Trevor Plouffe, but Hens centerfielder Wells threw pinch-runner Toby Gardenhire out at the plate to keep a run from scoring.

Buckner walked Jose Morales to load the bases, then gave up a two-run single to Wilson Ramos. Buckner threw a wild pitch to put runners on second and third, and Jacque Jones doubled to drive both runners in.

The Hens tried to get back into the game by scoring three runs, with two coming home on a double by Jeff Frazier and Jeff Larish adding a sacrifice fly.
