Ex-Hen Bump tough on old team
6/9/2010ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Lehigh Valley pitcher Nate Bump made his second straight impressive appearance in the "reunion" with his former teammates, the Toledo Mud Hens, leading the Iron Pigs to a 3-0 victory last night.
Bump had to be on the top of his game as Mud Hen starter Alfredo Figaro was almost as tough, giving up only one run in six innings.
On June 3 in Toledo, Bump gave up only one run in six innings in a 3-1 Lehigh Valley victory.
His dominance pitching in Toledo's Fifth Third Field could have been expected, as he was 4-0 with a 1.70 ERA in his six home starts for Toledo last season, 7-1 overall.
While Toledo loaded the bases with two out in its half of the first inning but couldn't score, the Iron Pigs got all the scoring they needed in the initial stanza.
Willy Taveras singled, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on Neil Sellers' double.
Lehigh Valley then added two more runs in the eighth. RelieverDaniel Schlereth threw a wild pitch and loaded the bases with three walks after striking out the leadoff batter.
The Iron Pigs then scored two runs when Jeff Larish threw wildly on a force-out attempt.
Scott Drucker relieved Schlereth and the Hens got out of further trouble when Brent Dlugash turned Paul Hoover's liner into a doubleplay.
The Mud Hens put two men on in the ninth on walks, but failed to score.
