Walk-off HR beats Hens

6/28/2010

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Indians remained relentless against the Toledo Mud Hens again Monday night, using a walk-off home run for a 6-5 victory.

Everytime Toledo seemed on the brink of grabbing the victory, the Indians came up with their own scoring thrust. It was the fourth straight win in the series for Indianapolis.

Will Rhymes inside-the-park home run to lead off the Toledo ninth had tied the game at 5.

Kevin Melillo, Indianapolis lead-off man in the ninth, trumped that effort. He greeted Toledo reliefer Jay Sborz with his fifth home run of the season to give Indianapolis the victory.

Indianapolis went up 2-0 after four innings, but the Hens came back with a single run in the fifth. Casper Wells walked, went to second when Maxwell Leon grounded to first, then took third on a wild pitch. He came home on Robinzon Diaz's sacrifice fly.

The Indians scored twice in their half of the fifth, chasing starter Toledo starter Ryan Ketchner.

The Mud Hens took advantage of Indianapolis pitching to tie the game at 4-all in the seventh.

Wilkin Ramirez singled to open the inning, Maxwell Leon singled with one out and Diaz walked to load the bases and chase Indians' starter Brian Burris. Anthony Claggett came in to give up a single to Rhymes, scoring Ramirez. Claggett then walked two (Brent Dlugach and Ryan Strieby) for two bases-loaded runs around a strike out (Jeff Frazier).

He managed to get Larish on a liner to end any further Toledo scoring.

Indianapolis took a 5-4 lead in the seventh with an unearned run, taking advantage of errors by Dlugach and Diaz.
