Trio leads Mud Hens past Louisville

LOUISVILLE - It's too little too late for the Toledo Mud Hens to make a playoff run, but the Hens keep figuring out ways to win of late.

And the wins are coming in pretty good fashion.

After falling behind 3-0 to Louisville in the first inning Saturday night, the Hens rallied to score eight unanswered to defeat the Bats 8-3.

Toledo has won seven of its last 10 games.

Saturday night the comeback started in the top of the third when Christopher White doubled to right plating Shawn Roof. Two batters later, after a Justin Henry single, Cale Iorg singled to center to cut the lead down to 3-2.

Toledo would tie the game in the top of the fourth off Shawn Roof's sacrifice fly, and take the lead for good when White's base knock scored Michael Bertram to make it 4-3.

Roof, White and Max St-Pierre each drove in a pair of runs. Roof finished 3 for 4 raising his average to .345.

Despite leaving nine on base, Toledo went 7 for 12 with runners in scoring position tacking on another run in the sixth and three more in the ninth.

In the ninth, Bertram's single scored Scott Sizemore and two batters later, St-Pierre drove in Ben Guez who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.

Roof would add the final run on a single to left scoring Bertram.

Starter Charles Furbush evened his record at 3-3 after throwing eight strong innings, allowing six hits, three runs and struck out three. He issued just one walk. Robbie Weinhardt pitched the ninth and allowed one hit and struck out one.

Louisville starter Chad Reinke was tagged for the loss and allowed five runs and eight hits. He struck out six in six innings of work.
