INDIANAPOLIS — The Mud Hens got a go-ahead single from Argenis Diaz, scoring Justin Henry in the top of the 10th inning, and salvaged a double-header split with a 4-3 victory in the second game against the host Indianapolis Indians Sunday in International League baseball.

Henry walked to lead off the 10th, then moved to third base on Bryan Holaday’s single to center.

Jose Ortega, who worked the final two innings for Toledo, picked up the win. He pitched a scoreless 10th, striking out two Indians batters.

The Mud Hens (5-5) had a chance to win in the ninth, when Danny Worth belted a two-out, solo home run to left field for a 3-2 lead. But Indianapolis tied the game in the bottom half on a Jeff Clement single that plated pinch-runner Starling Marte.

Jerad Head tied the game at 1 in the third inning for Toledo with a solo homer to left.

Toledo’s second-game starter, Ramon Garcia, allowed two runs in three innings. Relievers Luke Putkonen and Chris Bootcheck combined for five scoreless innings through eight innings, allowing just two Indians hits, both off of Bootcheck.

The Hens were buried 9-2 in the first game of the twin bill, with starting pitcher Casey Crosby (0-2) allowing five runs on four hits over three innings before being pulled. Two of those Indians runs were unearned.

Indianapolis got rolling in the second inning on Jeremy Farrell’s two-run double to right. The Indians added a run in the third when Marte doubled leading off, and he later scored on Jordy Mercer’s single.

Toledo fell behind 5-0 in the fourth when Farrell drew a bases-loaded walk and Gorkys Hernadez scored on a groundout.

The Mud Hens picked up both of their runs in the fifth inning of the seven-inning contest. Head homered to left leading off to end the shutout bid of the Indians’ Jo-Jo Reyes (1-0), Audy Ciriaco followed with a double, and later scored on an Eric Patterson single.

Toledo reliever Rob Waite fared no better than Crosby, yielding four runs (all earned) on three hits in 2? innings against Indianapolis (5-5).

The Hens and Indians remain tied for second in the IL’s West Division, one and a half games behind first-place Columbus.
