Mud Hens get offensive, snap skid

DURHAM, N.C. -- Toledo manager Phil Nevin looks like an oracle after the 11-1 drubbing given to the Durham Bulls on Saturday.

Nevin, who said after the Hens lost their sixth straight at home Friday that the team would hit and score runs when they got on the road, was right as Toledo (28-35) pounded out 18 hits in the win to snap the slide that included a four-game sweep at home by the Charlotte Knights.

Toledo had five doubles and three home runs in the win after scoring just nine runs in the Hens' last six games.

Ben Guez was 2-for-5 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

Jeff Frazier and Rob Brantly each tallied three hits in the win while Ryan Strieby was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer.

Frazier had two doubles and a homer in the win.

Every starting Mud Hen registered at least one hit for Toledo as it had offensive outputs of five runs in the fourth and four more in the eighth to continue the onslaught.

Jacob Turner got the win, pitching 6⅔ innings, allowing just one earned run on eight hits while walking one and striking out one. Darin Downs pitched the final two innings.

Shane Dyer took the loss for Durham (26-38).

Former Mud Hen Jeff Salazar had two hits for Durham along with Matt Mangini.
