Mud Hens score 3 runs in 10th to drop Bisons

7/19/2012

BUFFALO -- The Mud Hens bounced back from near-disaster in the bottom of the ninth to score three times in the 10th and beat Buffalo 4-1 Wednesday.

Toledo gave up the game-tying run in the ninth, but Chris Bootcheck pitched out of a bases-loaded, none-out jam to keep the game tied.

Then in the 10th Jerad Head drew a leadoff walk from the Bisons' Manny Acosta, took second on Audy Ciriaco's sacrifice, and moved to third on a passed ball.

Bryan Holaday singled to score Head. Argenis Diaz doubled, and Holaday scored when Buffalo catcher Rob Johnson dropped the throw to the plate.

Diaz, who took third on the throw home, scored on a suicide squeeze by Justin Henry.

The extra-inning rally erased the memory of the ninth, when Toledo blew a 1-0 lead. That run scored thanks to a second-inning home run by John Lindsey.

But in the ninth Bootcheck gave up a single to Adam Loewen, then hit Zach Lutz with a pitch.

Valentino Pascucci laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Bootcheck threw wildly to third, scoring Loewen and sending Lutz to third and Pascucci to second.

Bootcheck intentionally walked Josh Satin to load the bases with none out, but struck out Matt Den Dekker and Matt Tuiasosopo before getting Johnson to fly out to send the game to extra innings.

Toledo starter Adam Wilk put together a strong start, allowing just three hits and three walks in seven shutout innings that included five strikeouts.

Toledo finishes its four-game series against the Bisons today in a game starting at 1:05 p.m.
