Hens rally for win in 8th inning

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A four-run eighth inning propelled the Toledo Mud Hens to a 6-2 win over the host Syracuse Chiefs on Friday.

Syracuse was unable to score until the fifth against Drew Smyly. In that frame, Brett Carroll reached second courtesy of a leadoff single and a Eury Perez sacrifice bunt. Corey Brown put Syracuse on top with a two-run home run.

Syracuse's one-run lead lasted into the eighth, thanks to Yunesky Maya. The right-hander from Cuba scattered six hits, walked one, and struck out two in seven innings.

Things turned south for Syracuse when it went to Mike MacDougal from the bullpen in the eighth as Justin Henry tied the game with his first home run since 2010. MacDougal walked two of the next three Hens he faced before he was relieved in favor of Christian Garcia.

The Chiefs' closer didn't fair much better as he threw a wild pitch with Dorn at bat to put John Lindsey and Don Kelly on second and third, respectively.

Danny Dorn gave Toledo a 3-2 lead it wouldn't relinquish, as he singled to right. Ben Guez singled to plate a run and Danny Worth followed with a grounder to short that ended up causing trouble when Zach Walters made a throwing error to enable the Hens to load the bases. Bryan Holaday scored Dorn to make it 5-2 with an infield groundout.

Luis Marte earned the win for the Hens, as he struck out six batters over 2⅓ innings.
