Crosby helps Hens to 2nd shutout

Pitcher holds Columbus to 4 hits in 7 innings

COLUMBUS — Casey Crosby combined with a pair of relievers to shut out Columbus on five hits and pitch the Mud Hens to a 3-0 victory Sunday.

Crosby gave up just four hits and two walks while striking out six in seven innings to claim his first win of the season. Kenny Faulk pitched a scoreless eighth, and Bruce Rondon closed out the game to earn his third save of the season.

Crosby and the Toledo bullpen did not allow a Clipper past second base in posting the Hens second shutout of the season.

Toledo broke on top with a run in the second inning. John Lindsey singled off Columbus starter Giovanni Soto, then was forced at second base by Ben Guez. Guez moved to second on a walk to Danny Dorn, and Brad Davis singled home Guez.

The score remained 1-0 until the sixth, when Quintin Berry led off with a solo home run, his first of the season, against David Huff.

Then in the seventh Dorn walked, stole second, then raced home on a two-out double by Argenis Diaz.

Meanwhile the Clippers did little against Crosby. The closest they came to threatening was in the sixth, when Crosby walked Tim Fedroff and gave up a single to Lou Marson.

Crosby got Cord Phelps to hit into a double play, one of three the Hens turned in the contest.

Faulk posted one strikeout in the eighth, then walked former Hen Omir Santos before coaxing Ryan Rohlinger to hit into an inning-ending double play.

Rondon gave up a two-out single to Phelps but otherwise allowed just two harmless fly balls and a foul popout.

The two teams will complete this five-game series with a third and final contest in Columbus. This game will start at 10:35 a.m. today at Huntington Park.

NOTES: The Mud Hens placed IF Danny Worth on the disabled list and replaced him on the roster with 2B Brandon Douglas, who hit .297 with six RBIs in 11 games for Double-A Erie this season.
