INDIANAPOLIS — The Mud Hens dug themselves into an early hole against the Indianapolis Indians, and were not able to complete a late rally attempt in an 8-5 loss on Saturday evening.

Toledo starter Derek Hankins (0-2) managed to avoid too much trouble in the first, but things fell apart in the second inning.

Indianapolis’ Jerry Sands scored on a throwing error by Argenis Diaz to put the Indians up 2-0. Three batters later, with the bases loaded, Indianapolis’ Felix Pie hit a grand slam, putting the Indians up 6-0.

The Hens added runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, including a solo home run by Avisail Garcia.

The Indians tacked two more runs on in the seventh after Jess Todd came on in relief of Hankins.

Toledo added a pair of runs in the eighth.

Former Mud Hen Andy Oliver (3-1) earned the win for Indianapolis despite walking six in five innings.
