FORT MILL, S.C. — The Mud Hens’ bats were hot early as Toledo took an 8-1 fourth-inning lead and never looked back in a 12-4 win in Charlotte Wednesday night.

The win is the second victory in the last three games for Toledo (17-37), which had lost its previous six straight.

After Jose Alvarez surrendered a first inning run, the Mud Hens came roaring back in the second with a four-run rally sparked by a Ben Guez solo home run. Quintin Berry followed with an RBI double, and later scored when Jordan Lennerton extended his hitting streak to 18 games with an RBI single.

Toledo piled on three more runs in the top of the fourth after Ramon Cabrera knocked in two with a double and scored on a Kevin Russo sacrifice fly to give the Hens a 7-1 lead. The Hens stretched the lead to seven the following inning when Lennerton scored on a fielder's choice.

The Knights threatened in the fifth after they cut the lead to 8-3, but the Hens responded with two runs in the top of the sixth thanks to Danny Dorn's tenth homer of the year.

Charlotte added another in the seventh before Nick Castellanos homered in the eighth to give the Hens an 11-4 lead. The final run scored in the ninth when Brandon Douglas scored on a wild pitch to secure the 12-4 win.
