Bisons end Hens’ win streak

BUFFALO — The Mud Hens saw a three-game win streak end in a 2-1 loss to Buffalo Friday.

Toledo outhit the Bisons 8-6 but also hit into a pair of double plays and was 1-for-7 when batting with runners in scoring position to waste a strong start by Jon Link.

Link, making his first start since earning a promotion from Double-A Erie at the All-Star break, made his only mistake in the first inning. After giving up a one-out single to Munenori Kawasaki, Link allowed a two-out home run to Mauro Gomez. It was his 26th homer this season, which leads the International League.

Link gave up just six hits and two walks in seven innings of work.

Toledo scored its lone run in the fourth when Nick Castellanos singled, moved to second on an infield hit by Ben Guez, and came home on a single by Mike Cervenak. But Bryan Holaday hit into a double play to end that threat.

A double play also spoiled a potential Hens rally in the fifth. Argenis Diaz and Avisail Garcia singled to put runners on first and second with no one out, but Danny Worth’s bunt was caught by pitcher Justin Germano, who threw to first to double off Garcia.

Then in the eighth, after a 46-minute rain day, Buffalo reliever John Stilson walked Worth to lead off, then gave up a one-out single to Castellanos that put runners on first and third.

But Danny Dorn struck out and Guez flew out, and Stilson pitched a scoreless ninth to claim his third save this year.
