Gaynor’s HR lifts Mud Hens

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Wade Gaynor’s first home run of the year couldn't have come at a better time for the Mud Hens.

Gaynor’s blast with one out in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday night helped Toledo top Buffalo 1-0.

Blaine Hardy (3-2) picked up the win after pitching three hitless innings of relief and struck out five. Justin Miller pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save of the season.

Kyle Lobstein started for the Hens and gave up seven hits in five innings, while striking out four and walking one.

Ben Guez went 2-for-4 for Toledo and Jordan Lennerton was 1-for-4 with a double.

Gaynor made up for his fly out with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, one of many scoring chances the Hens squandered. Buffalo starter Radhames Liz had walked three batters that inning.

Lennerton was stranded after his one-out double in the fifth inning. Ezequiel Carrera struck out and Brandon Douglas bounced out to short to end the threat.

In the eighth, Tyler Collins struck out with runners at first and second to retire the side.

The two teams were a combined 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
