Seven drum corps from across the Midwest will compete in the Ninth Annual Glassmen All-Star Review Saturday night at the University of Toledo Glass Bowl Stadium.

In addition to the Toledo Glassmen, the evening's other highlight may be the Rosemont, Ill.-based Cavaliers, who have been world champions the past three years. The Glassmen have finished between fifth and eighth during that time.

For the 135-member Glassmen, the Glass Bowl offers an opportunity to play before a home crowd before embarking on a schedule that will include some 15,000 miles of bus travel to 40 competitive appearances ranging from Massachusetts to Texas.

While 70 percent of the Glassmen come from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana, this year's ensemble includes members from Japan, Holland, and Canada. Members range in age from 14 to 22.

The Glassmen's show is titled The Elements: Air, Earth, Fire, Water. Music will include “Danza de los Duendes” by Nancy Galbraith, “October” by Eric Whitacre, and works written especially for the show.

The Glassmen will present a free open rehearsal in the Glass Bowl from noon to 5 p.m. tomorrow. The Glassmen will also appear at the Toledo Zoo on July 27 for “Music Under the Stars.”

The Glassmen will host their All-Star Review at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at UT's Glass Bowl. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $16 and will be available at the door. Information: 419-698-9775.
