Godsmack: Rockers have a quiet side
4/2/2004Making a move from sonic fury and high-voltage rock to a gentle, acoustic strum could cause some bands to feel a bit, well, powerless.
Not Godsmack.
The Boston-based band that is known for its fierce attacks on songs such as "I Stand Alone" and "Releasing the Demons" goes unplugged on its latest EP, "The Other Side," and the band shows it has melodic strength on its nonmetal side.
Godsmack will be in concert with Dropbox at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Toledo Sports Arena.
"We've always wanted to make a record like this," said guitarist and lead singer Sully Erna. "This record gives us a chance to spread our wings a little bit and offer the fans something different."
Erna, guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist Robbie Merrill, and drummer Shannon Larkin joined forces in 1995 and made their major-label debut in 1998. That self-titled disc sold more than 4 million copies.
The band's three full-length studio releases have earned four Grammy nominations, including Best Hard Rock Performance for the single "Straight Out of Line" from the "Faceless" album.
