One of the godfathers of funk is returning to Toledo.
George Clinton, known for such hits as "Atomic Dog," "Aqua Boogie," "One Nation Under a Groove," and "Flash Light" performs with his Parliament-Funkadelic tomorrow night at Headliners.
Clinton, in his early 60s, has inspired contemporary rock musicians along with rap and hip-hop artists with his blend of R&B laced with sound effects, psychedelic guitar distortion, and booming bass lines.
For the Toledo performance, Clinton and his band will be joined by his granddaughter, Sativa, a rapper.
Clinton has a special connection to Toledo: In September, 1990, he and his fiancee, Stephanie Lynn, drove here from one of their homes in Brooklyn, Mich., to be married in a $15 ceremony at the Lucas County Courthouse. The couple are still married.
George Clinton and his Parliament-Funkadelic perform at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Headliners, 4500 North Detroit Ave. Tickets are $22.50 in advance from Ticketmaster outlets and $25 at the door. Information: 419-269-4500 or www.georgeclinton.com.
