Dancing to the sounds of Sinatra

7/16/2004

Johnny Knorr's classic big band sound will pay tribute to the 20th century's pre-eminent crooner tomorrow night when it features "The Songs of Frank Sinatra."

The popular Dancing Under the Stars series performance at Centennial Terrace will be led by veteran Toledo vocalist Dan Welch, who will run through a number of Sinatra classics.

The show will span the storied singer's career from his stint with the Tommy Dorsey orchestra to his later years. Expect to hear classics such as "I'll Never Smile Again," "New York, New York," and "My Way."

The 14-piece orchestra will play two 45 minute sets and, as always, there will be plenty of dancing.

The show is part of a seven-concert series that started June 19 and runs to Sept. 18.

And for those who want to get in a quick dance lesson before the 7:30 p.m. concert, a free session will be offered at 7 p.m. by Ruth Hanf of Hanf Dance Studios.

Following is a rundown of the remaining concerts in the Dancing Under the Stars series (all tickets are $8 except where otherwise noted):
