Parker and Cook to perform in TBG
8/5/2004Gene Parker and Jimmy Cook perform from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight in the Jazz in the Garden series in Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for members of the Toledo Jazz Society or the TBG.
The Academy Brass Quintet performs at 7 tonight in Woodlands Park, at the corner of I-795 and East Boundary Street, Perrysburg. If it rains, the concert will move to the Schaller Building, 130 West Indiana Ave., Perrysburg.
Dezire presents Motown hits at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Glyn M. Smith Amphitheater in Ottawa Park.
The Waterville Playshop presents a benefit concert featuring songs from the musical Ragtime at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Hope United Methodist Church, 10610 Waterville St., Whitehouse. Donations will accepted at the door.
Trombonist Garth Simmons and the Pride of Toledo Chorus join conductor Sam Szor and the Toledo Concert Band in "Andrew Lloyd Webber and More," a Music Under the Stars concert, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Toledo Zoo Amphitheatre.

In its final weekend of the 2004 summer season, the Ohio Light Opera presents South Pacific at 2 this afternoon, The Violet of Montmartre at 8 tonight, The Merry Widow at 8 p.m. tomorrow, Patience at 2 p.m. Saturday, and Robin Hood at 8 p.m. Saturday. Lakeside's summer symphony series continues when the Pointe of Departure Ballet performs Saturday. Cleveland's Public Auditorium and Outdoor Mall Park hosts a festival to honor the 40th anniversary of The Beatles' first North American tour this weekend. Tribute band British Export will re-create the Beatles roof-top concert today on the roof of the Velvet Dog Saloon in Cleveland's Warehouse Entertainment District. "Abbey Road On the River," a three-day festival. starts tomorrow. Featured will be international bands and artists on four stages, art, films, and food. Featured through Aug. 15 will be works by Lourdes Bastos, Aimee McDonald, Christina Sears-Etter, and Beth Wielinski. Performance times are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $20, but there is a special combined ticket price of $37.50 for Dancing in Summer and the Peter Sparling Dance Company, which is to perform Aug. 19-22. Sparling tickets alone are $27.50.
