Artist tells her 'Secrets'

10/1/2004

The Happy Badger Performing Arts Center will be brimming with talent tomorrow when powerhouse Canadian singer Allison Crowe performs.

Crowe, who is from British Columbia, is a pianist with a strong, beautiful voice that can range from quiet ballads to full-throated rockers. Her latest disc is "Secrets," on the Festival label.

Crowe has been compared to such artists as Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Carole King, and Joni Mitchell. Her music blends jazz, folk, rock, and blues.

A recent cover of fellow Canadian Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" breathes life into the sedate songwriter's original, cranking up the tension on the ballad. She also recently had a cover of a Beatles song placed on a tribute album.

Tomorrow's show at the 1855 South Reynolds Rd. venue begins at 7 p.m. with local artists Sarah Cohen and Daniel Greunke as the opening acts. Crowe's performance is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Information: 419-389-0021.
