Symphony gets ready for baseball season

The Toledo Symphony Orchestra performs at 7:30 tonight in Founders Hall at Sauder Village, Archibold. Violinist Pamela Stuckey will be featured in Tchaikovsky's Valse Scherzo. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Information: 800-590-9755.

The symphony trades tuxedos for jeans and sports jerseys as it presents, "Play Ball!" at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Peristyle of the Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe St. The sports-themed concert will feature Blade editor Tom Walton reading "Casey at the Bat"; a special relief conductor, Richard Karcher, and guest soloist, violinist Andrea Jarrett. Gary Lewis and his International Silver Medalist winning barbershop quartet, MAX Q, are scheduled to perform at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Franciscan Theatre & Conference Center of Lourdes College, 6832 Convent Blvd. Sylvania. The concert is a benefit for the Sylvania Northview High School choral program. All of Northview's choirs, along with the alumni quartet, Footnotes, will perform. Bowling Green State University's MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music presents the music of composer Larry Austin as the inaugural concert in its Digital Arts Concert Series. Jazz pianist Fred Hersch brings his compositional statement, "Leaves of Grass," to the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre, 911 North University Ave., Ann Arbor, at 8 tonight.
