Sheila Jordan set for Murphy's Place

Jazz singer Sheila Jordan will appear with the Murphys in shows at 9 and 11 p.m. Friday at Murphy's Place, 151 Water St. Named among the top five female jazz vocalists in 2001, Jordan began singing in Detroit clubs in her early teens. Doors open at 5 p.m. for a pre-show dinner. Admission is $8, $10, and $15 from 419-241-7782.

Also at Murphy's Place, jazz pianist and former Toledoan Larry Fuller will be appearing with the Pete Siers Trio, supporting their new CD, "Those Who Choose To Swing, Vol. 2," at 8 and 10 p.m. tonight. Tickets range from $8 to $10.

On March 31, pianist Michael Wolff will perform with his jazz group, Impure Thoughts. Wolff is best known as the leader of the Posse, Arsenio Hall's house band.

The 2005 Spring Authors! Authors! lectures continue with Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Edward P. Jones at 7 tonight in the Stranahan Theater Great Hall, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. The series is sponsored by The Blade and the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. Tickets are $8 from all library locations, and at the door.

Singer Tom Jones will perform at 7:30 p.m. March 31 in the theater. Tickets range from $42.50 to $66.50 from the box office, 419-381-8851 and Ticketmaster, 419-474-1333.

L'aime Inc. presents "Her Story" - Celebrating Womanhood from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Radisson Hotel, 101 North Summit St. Entertainment includes dancing, poets, and a fashion show, as well as artwork. Mickey Finn's Pub, 602 Lagrange St., will host the Zimmerman Twins, Deadbeat Moms, and Dragracers & Rock Star Club at 10 tomorrow night; cover is $5. Courageous Minority with Sandford Drive will perform at 10 p.m. Friday; cover is $5. And on Saturday, Dr. Sauce will hold an Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 9:30 p.m.; cover is $5. The International Film Series at BGSU will present Train de Vie (Train of Life) at 7:30 Thursday in the Gish Film Theater. This is the first of four Holocaust-related films leading up to a two-week visit by German scholar Norbert Kampe in late April and early May.

Director of the House of the Wannsee Conference Memorial and Educational Site in Berlin, Mr. Kempe will discuss the significance of the conference and the tragedy of the Holocaust during appearances at BGSU and elsewhere in northwest Ohio beginning April 25.

Other films scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the Gish Theater are Rosenstrasse, March 31; Musime si pomahat (Divided We Fall), April 7; and Amen, April 14.

On April 28, Mr. Kampe will introduce The Wannsee Conference, a 2002 German film that reenacts, on location, the Jan. 20, 1942 meeting. A question and answer period will follow. The series is free and open to the public.

AUDITIONS

Musicians and street performers are invited to audition from 3 to 10 p.m. April 18 at Chelsea's Common Grill Restaurant, 112 South Main St. in Chelsea, Mich., for street entertainers Thursday nights throughout the summer in downtown Chelsea. More than 70 paying spots are needed for the community's second annual "Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights."
