Jazz orchestra plans Jaffe series finale

The final concert of the 2004-05 Harold Jaffe Concert Series features the Toledo Jazz Orchestra with the program "Kickin' it With Kenton" at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Franciscan Theater & Conference Center of Lourdes College, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania. Author Thomas Cahill will be the next featured speaker in the Authors! Authors! event scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Stranahan Great Hall and sponsored by The Blade and the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. Cahill is a historian in the midst of a seven-part "Hinges of History" series that recounts formative moments in Western Civilization. J-R-C Spot will be in concert at 10 tonight; cover is $3. The Drawers & All Night Push perform at 10 p.m. tomorrow; cover is $4. The Black Swamp Players are presenting The Sorcerer through April 9 in the First United Methodist Church, 1506 East Wooster St., Bowling Green. The Way Public Library, 101 East Indiana Ave., Perrysburg, continues to host Reel Talk, a monthly classic film series, with the showing of the 1933 musical, Footlight Parade, starring James Cagney and Ruby Keeler, at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the library's lower level auditorium. The Toledo Repertoire Theatre presents the second round of Rep-A-Looza, the local talent contest for youth. Open auditions will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. this Saturday, April 10, and April 16 in the theater at 16 Tenth St. The competition is open to elementary, middle, and high school singers, dancers, and actors. Contestants will perform a three-minute routine before a panel of judges. The audition fee is $10. Preliminary rounds take place May 15 and 22, with finals scheduled for May 29. Auditions will be held for the Croswell Opera House's 2005 summer musical season from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Croswell rehearsal room and from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday on the Croswell stage.
