TSO plans tribute to jazz greats

The Toledo Symphony Orchestra presents a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. Featured will be vocalist Patti Austin, trumpeter Byron Stripling, and conductor Chelsea Tipton II. The possibility of an on-line ticketing operation shared by several area arts groups will be reviewed at an open meeting at 5:30 p.m. today on the fourth floor of the Professional Building, 1838 Parkwood Ave., across from the Toledo Museum of Art.

The findings of a feasibility study for a centralized ticketing option will be presented. The idea is a collaborative effort by the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, the Greater Toledo Convention and Visitors Bureau, Owens Community College, and several performance groups.

Kevin McMahon, president of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, will discuss how his organization recently implemented a ticketing system, similar to the one being considered in Toledo.

The Tia Fuller Quartet will be in concert at 7:30 tonight in the Ritz Theatre, 30 South Washington St., Tiffin, as part of Tiffin University's Jazz Festival. Tickets are $10. Way Public Library, 101 East Indiana Ave., Perrysburg, will host the first free recital in its 2005 Young Artist Series at 3 p.m. Sunday. The featured performers are soprano Kisma Jordan and countertenor Rizo Arellano, graduate and undergraduate winners of the Marjory Conrad Pealee Art Song Competition at Bowling Green State University. Also appearing in Bryan Hall will be the classical guitar ensemble under the direction of Matthew Ardizzone at 8 p.m. Tuesday and a Faculty Artist Series concert featuring tenor Geoffrey Stephenson and pianist Kevin Bylsma at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

In Kobacker Hall of the Moore Center, the BGSU Symphonic Band and the University Choral Society will be in concert at 8 p.m. tomorrow. Also, BGSU's Concert and University bands will be in concert at 8 p.m. Saturday.

All of the events are free.

The brass-instrument faculty of BGSU's College of Musical Arts will be featured in a free Faculty Artist Series concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Great Gallery of the Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe St.
