Take a field trip with the Friz

Nobody plans field trips like the Friz.

For years, the fictional elementary schoolteacher and star of the children's book series and animated television series has been taking her students on Magic School Bus rides to explore principles of science and problem-solving.

Tonight, the Friz - properly known as Ms. Frizzle - along with her reptilian sidekick Liz, and pupils Arnold, Carlos, Wanda, and Dorothy Ann (D.A., for short) take to the stage in Scholastic's The Magic School Bus - Live! at 7 in the Stranahan Theater.

In the stage show, the Friz teaches lessons in sound and recycling. She leads a class field trip to the city dump when the Magic School Bus breaks down and the bus horn won't work properly. Class members investigate the properties of sound to solve their problems.

In the recycling portion, a lunch break turns into more than the students bargain for when the Friz points out that they are eating on a newly proposed landfill. With assistance from the audience, the students discover the principles of recycling and how thoughtful disposal of trash can not only save one scenic area from becoming a dump, but can also help save the Earth.

Scholastic's "The Magic School Bus - Live!" is scheduled for 7 tonight in the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. Tickets are $17, $20, and $23 and are available in the box office and at Ticketmaster. Information: 419-381-8851.
