25th Brown Bag Concert Series to begin

The 25th season of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library's Brown Bag Concert Series is slated to begin Wednesday on the north lawn of the main library, 325 North Michigan St. The free concerts are performed from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 3. One free hour of underground parking is available off Adams Street in the library garage. June's lineup includes: On the Beach, Wednesday; Blue Moon, June 18; Jason Quick Trio, June 15; Glinda's Bubble, June 22, and Bonkers, June 29. Information: 419-259-5207

The library has also announced the line-up for Garage Rock II. The six-week free series features 18 area bands performing in the parking garage of the main library. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. June 9 and continue on a weekly basis through July 14. Scheduled are: Stereomod, Vanderbee, Falling Back, June 9; Resonant Soul, Desolation Angels, the Drawers, June 16; Separation Tree, Legion, Leaving Autumn, June 23; Peter's Cry, Pawn, Phoenix 1, June 30; Catchpole, Texas Pete and the Revolution, 2nd Life, July 7; Society's Ugly Son, Burnt Notion, Moonmen, July 14.

CitiFest has chosen the nonprofit volunteer organizations for the 2005 event season. The Toledo Roadrunners Club hosts LatinoFest June 11 and 12, the Wood County Humane Society hosts the Toledo Blues Festival July 30, Maumee Senior Center hosts The Pharm Lights the Night July 4, and Neighborhoods in Partnership hosts RiverFest Sept. 4. Rally by the River will be hosted by the Black Swamp Blues Society June 3, Toledo Power Squadron, July 1, and Beach House Family Shelter Aug. 19.

Griffin's Hines Farm Blues Club presents Eddie "House Rockin'" Shaw and the Wolf Gang June 4. The Blues Messengers also will perform. Doors open at 6 p.m.; bands begin at 7. Admission is $12. Hines Farms is on Junction 295 in Swanton. Information: www.hinesfarm.com.

Sara's House Party, benefiting the Ronald McDonald House charities of northwest Ohio, is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. June 4 in the Westgate Village Shopping Center at Secor Road and Central Avenue. Family activities include a classic car show, antique fire-truck rides, and learning activities.

Party time will be held from 6:30 to 11 p.m. with food, beverages, and entertainment by Captain Fantastic (playing the music of Elton John) and the '80s dance band Boogie Fever. Admission is $5. Information: 419-471-4663.

Ramalama Records will celebrate its first anniversary party June 4 with the Blackkeys at Club Bijou. Also performing will be Five Horse Johnson and Boogaloosa Prayer. Tickets are $10 from 419-243-4446.

Shall We Dance ... A Celebration of Love is scheduled June 5 at the Event Center, 23 North Summit St., downtown. Couples can enjoy a live band, workshops, and ballroom dancing with personal instructors. Workshops will be held from 5 to 6:30 pm., followed by dancing from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Cost is $50 per couple from 419-509-8507.

The University of Toledo department of theater and film will present The Fantasticks June 3-18 in the UT Center for Performing Arts. Auditions are scheduled for the musical Chicago June 6 and 7 in the Little Theater off the Square, 208 West Butler St., Bryan, Ohio. Production dates are Aug. 18-28. The Motor City Buffy Con takes place June 3-5 in the Marriott Eagle Crest Resort and Conference Center in Ypsilanti, Mich. A fan-run event for fans of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel allows attendees to meet and mingle with actors from both series.
