Gods will thunder on Sunday

5/26/2005

The immodestly named Gods will bring their sonic assault and high-octane energy to Headliners Sunday in a show that's bound to create some thunder.

Formed by singer Jesse Smith and bassist Rob Horner, key members of metalcore monsters Zao, Gods also includes Nate Staats (keyboard), Chad Huff and Alan Enicks (guitar), and Bobby Green (drums.)

The band has just released a new disc, "I See You Through Glass" on Hand of Hope Records, which captures their moody combination of thrashing metal and atmospherics. Each song is an explosion, and the band's live shows are notorious for their energy. Smith has suffered a broken rib from stage diving and it's not unusual for him to end up a little bloody after bashing himself in the head with his microphone.

These Gods bear no resemblance to the Godz, a Columbus band circa the 1970s-80s that played a more straightforward brand of metal.

Also on the bill are A Static Lullaby, A Day Against the Fire, and The Machine Always Wins.

Doors for the all-ages show open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 in advance through Ticketmaster. Headliners is at 4500 North Detroit St. Information: 419-693-5300.
