'American Idol' singers due in Toledo, Detroit

American Idol contestants are coming to area stages in the not-too-distant future.

Carrie Underwood, winner of this year's contest, is headed to Detroit's Joe Louis Arena Aug. 4 as part of the American Idols Live Tour. Joining Underwood are Bo Bice, Anthony Fedorov, Constantine Maroulis, Anwar Robinson, Scott Savol, Jessica Sierra, Nikko Smith, Vonzell Solomon, and Nadia Turner. Tickets are $38 and $48 from Joe Louis Arena and the Fox Theatre box office, and Ticketmaster, 248-645-6666.

Clay Aiken, the runner-up to Ruben Studdard in the second year of American Idol, is scheduled in the Toledo Zoo amphitheater, 2700 Broadway, at 8 p.m. Aug. 16. Tickets are $39.50 and $47.50.

The winner of the first American Idol contest, Kelly Clarkson, is to perform at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 in the SeaGate Convention Centre, 401 Jefferson Ave. Tickets are $39.50 and $49.50 from Ticketmaster.

The Toledo Repertoire Theatre and its Young Rep division will present Li'l Abner at 7 p.m. Aug. 5 and 6 and :30 p.m. Aug. 7 in the theater at 16 Tenth St.

Staged by high school student from throughout the area, the production is directed by Amelia Shepherd with musical direction by Scott Shepherd. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students from the box office, 419-243-9277.

Orphan Productions, Inc., presents Disney's Cinderella Kids, the stage musical specifically adapted and licensed for children by Music Theatre International, at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Aug. 6 in the Maumee Indoor Theater, 601 Conant St. Tickets are free, and doors open a half-hour prior to each performance.

Genoa Civic Theatre will hold auditions for its first production of the 2005-06 season, House for Sale, from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 7 and 8 in the theater, 509 1/2 Main St., Genoa. There are parts for five men and six women.
