Texas rockers Bowling for Soup come to Headliners Monday

7/28/2005

It's impossible to take good-time, Grammy-nominated Texas pop rockers Bowling for Soup seriously.

And that's exactly the way the self-proclaimed "drunk rockers" who play Headliners Monday want it.

With a knack for catchy hooks, the band had a sizeable hit earlier this year with "1985," an ode to the sort-of glory days of the '80s that is equal parts ironic humor and nostalgia.

The titles of their last two albums pretty much say it all: "A Hangover You Don't Deserve" in 2004, and "Drunk Enough to Dance" in 2002.

Also on the bill are Cherry Monroe, a band that takes its prime influences from the glam-rock movement that produced T. Rex and David Bowie. The members of the five-man band are from Youngstown and Pittsburgh and they've been playing together since 2004.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. all-ages show are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

They can purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 419-474-1333, at www.TicketMaster.com, or locally at Culture Clash or Freon Beats. Information, call 419-693-5300. Headliners is at 4500 North Detroit Ave.
