Trans-Siberian Orchestra schedules concert in Toledo

Rob Becker's Defending the Caveman, a comedy show for mature audiences that focuses on male-female relationships, will be staged Oct. 6-9 at the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. Show times will be 8 p.m. Oct. 6 and 7, 2 and 8 p.m. Oct. 8, and 2 and 7 p.m. Oct. 9. Community Cultural Arts Organizations, a collaboration of northwest Ohio cultural arts institutions, will offer a six-part program called Expose Yourself to the Arts that will feature backstage tours, a chance to meet performers, and educational opportunities about the performances.

Programs include the Toledo Opera production of Madame Butterfly, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Valentine Theatre, where the evening will begin with a discussion with performers. The Toledo Ballet's production of The Nutcracker is next, where participants will meet at 4:45 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Stranahan Theater to tour the stage, meet the performers, and talk with the artistic director. Larry the Cable Guy comes to Savage Hall at the University of Toledo for a performance at 8 p.m. Nov. 18. Tickets are $41.75 from the box office, 419-530-4653, and Ticketmaster.

The JiMiller Band returns to Howard's Club H on Main Street in Bowling Green Oct. 8, playing Grateful Dead music all night for the 18-and-older crowd. Information: 419-352-9951.

The Tecumseh Civic Auditorium opens its 2005-06 season with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9. The second event in the series will be Leahy at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5. Leahy consists of nine siblings ranging in age from 24 to 37, singing and step-dancing. The third show will be Will Rogers Now! on Feb. 11, 2006. Fourth in the line-up is Footworks, a percussive dance group performing March 11. The season concludes with LUMA, A Phenomenon of Light on April 8. Using black-light, colorful day-glo puppets, glowing spheres, and other objects, LUMA explores all forms of light.

The Valentine Theatre will hold open auditions for the The Night Before Christmas The Whole Story, from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 7, 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 8, and 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 9 at 410 Adams St. Auditioners will perform a one to two-minute song with their own accompaniment and a one to two-minute monologue. The Perrysburg Academy of the Performing Arts will hold auditions for The Nutcracker Saturday at their studio in the Country Charm Shopping Center in Perrysburg. Auditions for ages 6 to 10 will be from 3 to 4 p.m. and ages 10 to 15 from 5 to 6 p.m. Dancers must arrive one-half hour before audition time.
