Larry McCray blends rock, blues, soul

3/23/2006

Detroit bluesman Larry McCray will bring his hybrid of rock, blues, and soul to the Longhorn Saloon Sunday night as he tours in support of his latest disc "Live on 75."

McCray's style is born of the "three kings": B.B., Albert, and Freddie. It's a no-nonense, no-frills style of blues that features fiery guitar work and soulful vocals.

The 45-year-old guitarist has recorded four studio discs and played throughout the country.

His performance is part of the Black Swamp Blues Society's 10th anniversary celebration, which will feature future Toledo-area shows by Ronnie Baker Brooks, Scott Holt, Chubby Carrier, and Ana Popovic.

Larry McCray performs in a 6:30 p.m. show Sunday in the Longhorn Saloon, 946 Phillips Ave. Opening act is Frostbite, and Josh Boyd and the VIP Band play a post-show set. Tickets are $8 for members of the Black Swamp Blues Society and $10 for the general public.
