Music Under the Stars begins a new season

Fifty-four years of classical music and family entertainment continues for another summer Sunday when the Music Under the Stars 2006 season kicks off with a tribute to Broadway.

The Toledo Zoo Amphitheatre, 2700 Broadway, will again host the free event, which runs for eight weeks. The Toledo Concert Band under the direction of Sam Szor will perform with a diverse lineup of acts.

The concerts are at 7:30 p.m. each Sunday. A rundown of the performances:

●Sunday: "Sensational Broadway" with Sax 4th Avenue and the Cassandra Ballet School.

●July 16: "Place of Honor: John Phillip SoUSA" with the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps and the National Anthem Project.

●July 23: "Cup Full of Magic: Disney!" with Cheryl Trace and her Suzuki Kids.

●July 30: "Aspects of Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber."

●Aug. 6: "Night at the Oscars: Hollywood!"

●Aug. 13: "KIDS: Toy Stories."

●Aug. 20: "The Quest for Cool: Jazz!"

●Aug. 27: "Rodgers and Hammerstein: Super Nova Duo!"

This year's sponsors include The Toledo Zoo, The Andersons, Inc., Sunoco, Daimler Chrysler Corp. Foundation, Meijer, UAW Region 2-B with support from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, FirstEnergy Foundation, and the J.M. Smucker Co.
