Theater League presents 'Superstar'

The Theater League presents the award-winning Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical, "Jesus Christ Superstar," on the stage of the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd., at 8 p.m. Oct. 5 and 6, at 2 and 8 p.m. Oct. 7 and at 2 and 7 p.m. Oct. 8. The Toledo-Lucas County Library, Maumee Branch, 501 River Rd., Maumee, presents national sports columnist, TV analyst and author, Christine Brennan in a talk scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 6. Brennan, who was raised in Toledo, will discuss being raised in Toledo by her father who nurtured her love for sports, as well as her noted career in a male-dominated industry. The Toledo Repertoire Theater, 16 10th Street, will be holding auditions for its December production of Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Carol!" at 1 p.m. Oct. 7 for children and at 1 p.m. Oct. 8 for adults. Owens Community College and the Toledo School for the Arts present the Air National Guard Band of the Great Lakes, 555th Air Force Band in a free concert at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 7, on the Mainstage Theater of the Center For the Fine and Performing Arts, 30335 Oregon Rd., Perrysburg. The concert will feature three separate ensembles, the jazz of "The Thunderbirds," pop by "Wingspan," and the concert band. Also on the Mainstage Theater, David Gonzalez's Broadway show "Sofrito," a blend of Latin musical theater, stand-up and dance, will highlight the college's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, at 8 p.m. Oct. 13. Actor Buddy Elias, a relative of World War II diarist Anne Frank, will host a dramatic presentation, along with Bowling Green State University Women's Chorus performing "I Never Saw Another Butterfly," five poems written by children of the Terezin concentration camp, at 8 p.m. Oct. 6., in the Bowwn-Thompsin Student Union Theatre, Bowling Green. This performance is being done in conjunction with the conference, The Nuremberg War Crimes Trail and Its Policy Implications for Today. Also at Bowling Green, The BGSU Student Jazz combos will perform in Bryan Recital Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center. While The 5 Browns, the sibling pianist who's debut album spent ten weeks at No. 1 on Billboards classical charts, will give a lecture/demonstration from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 11 in Kobacker Hall. The Toledo Repertoire Theatre will host auditions for it's December production of Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Carol" at it's Tenth Street Stage, 16 10th St., at 1 p.m. Oct. 7 for children and at 1 p.m. Oct. 8 for adults. Children grades K-3rd grade should prepare to sing "Away in a Manger." Children grades 4 and up should prepare to sing "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." St. Ursula Academy, 4025 Indian Rd., will be hosting auditions for it's February production of Les Miserables School Edition, on Sunday in the school's Choral room.
