Danity Kane to visit Headliners

10/5/2006

The unreal world of reality TV comes to Toledo Oct. 12 when Danity Kane hits the stage at Headliners.

The group is the brainchild of Sean "Diddy" Combs' MTV series Making the Band 3 and the five singer/dancers were selected from among hundreds who auditioned.

Danity Kane is not exactly a critical favorite - the Philadelphia Inquirer described the band as "dishwater in a champagne glass" - but young people love it.

The group's debut CD, "Danity Kane," peaked at No. 1 when it was released in August and is now the No. 16 disc in Billboard's Top 200. The single "Show Stopper" is in regular rotation on Top 40 radio.

The quintet of Dawn, Aubrey, D. Woods, Shannon, and Aundrea received top-notch production help from a who's who of producers, including Timbaland, Mario Winans, and Diddy.

The rap impresario has described the band as the next En Vogue or Destiny's Child and its sound is a similar mix of sassy dance-oriented funk and rhythm and blues, with an emphasis on club credibility.

Danity Kane performs Oct. 12 in Headliners, 4500 North Detroit Ave. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. They are on sale at Culture Clash, RamaLama Records, Freon Beats, Rocket Liquor Store, and Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com, or 419-474-1333. Information: 419-693-5300, or 248-252-3027.
