Orchestra, piano concerts slated at UT

The University of Toledo Music Department presents the University Symphony Orchestra in a concert of works by Mozart and Rimsky-Korsakov at 8 p.m. Tuesday in University Hall's Doermann Theater, 2801 West Bancroft St. Also pianist Rene Lecuona will be the featured musician in this year's first Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series concert at 3 p.m. October 15 in Recital Hall of the Center for the Performing Arts. The Lourdes College Music Department presents a free Fall Music Showcase from 3 to 6 p.m. October 15 in the Franciscan Theatre and Conference Center, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania. The showcase will be comprised of three mini-concerts featuring music students, faculty and guest, the English Handbell Ensemble and the Lourdes College Choirs. Information: 419-824-3772.

The Williams County Community Theater presents "An Evening of Barbershop Harmony" at 7 p.m. Saturday in Bryan First Baptist Church, 301 West Butler St., Bryan. The concert will feature Town and Country Chorus, The Border Boyz and women's barbershop quartet Spare Parts. Cantus, a male vocal ensemble will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, in First Presbyterian Church, 265 Jackson St., Sandusky. The ensemble's repertoire spans many periods and genres, including Gregorian chant, Renaissance motets, comtemporary sacred works, folk, spirituals, jazz and pop. Information: 419-625-6261.

Patrick Stoyanovich will present a free solo piano recital of original compositions in conjunction with the Custer Days celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Presbyterian Church, 108 Washington St., Monroe, Mi. Stoyanovich's concert will, feature music from his Piano Western Series, based on the life of General George Armstrong Custer, as well as from Six Day Bicycle Race, a newly produced PBS documentary scheduled to air in the spring of 2007. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra opens it's 2006-07 Pops season with a hometown tribute titled "Motown Magic" featuring hits from the record labels early years at 10:45 a.m. and 8 p.m. October 12, at 8:30 p.m. October 13 and 14 and at 3 p.m. October 15, in Orchestra Hall of the Max M. The University Musical Society opens it's 2006-07 Dance series with performances by the Martha Graham Dance Company at 8 p.m. October 13 and 14, and a special one-hour family performance at 1 p.m. October 14, in the Power Center, 121 Fletcher St. Ann Arbor, Mi.
