UT streamlines Romeo and Juliet

A classic love story, a dirty dog, and a little orphan girl highlight this week's theater offerings in the Toledo area.

The University of Toledo Department of Theatre and Film will present a streamlined version of Romeo and Juliet featuring a scaled-down cast beginning tomorrow.

Directed by Vladimir Prahcharov, visiting assistant professor of theatre, the presentation uses Friar Tuck's monologue as a frame for the production. The seven-member cast is made up entirely of UT students: Bill Lancz, Katie Radiger, Brad Arner, Mike Yeary, Maurice Price, Kevin Little, and Ashely Streichert.

Performance dates are tomorrow-Sunday and Oct. 25-29. A signed performance for the hearing-impaired will be Oct. 26. Curtain time for the Wednesday through Saturday performances is 7:30 p.m. and Sunday performances will be at 2 p.m. Tickets are $13 general admission, $11 for senior citizens and UT faculty, staff, and alumni, and $9 for UT students. •Owens Community College will begin its Family Fun Sunday performances this weekend with two performances of Harry the Dirty Dog at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Mainstage Theater at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The family-oriented musical by ArtsPower, a nonprofit producer of professional children's theater, is based on the classic children's book by Gene Zion.

Tickets for Harry the Dirty Dog are $10 and all seats are general admission. They can be purchased at www.owens.edu or at the college's box office. Information: 567-661-2787.

•Waterville Playshop presents Annie, the tale of a red-headed orphan who is adopted by the millionaire Oliver Warbucks, beginning tonight and running through Sunday at Anthony Wayne High School. The presentation will be directed by Anna Francis, with choreography by Vicki Clyce.

Show time is 8 p.m. tonight, tomorrow and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and students, and $5 for children. There is no reserved seating.
