Gator'z cancels hip-hop show to allay fears

2/2/2007

A hip-hop concert by the Ying Yang Twins scheduled for Feb. 13 at Gator'z Bar & Grill, 2567 Bancroft St., has been canceled.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner and police chief Mike Navarre were concerned about potential disturbances to residents in the Bancroft Hills neighborhood, fearing that people who attended the concert would leave intoxicated and create problems. The bar's ownership elected to cancel the event, according to a press release from the mayor's office sent out yesterday.

There have been incidents of violence after Ying Yang Twins concerts in others cities, the release stated, and there has been friction between permanent residents of the neighborhood adjacent to the University of Toledo and the transient student population.
