Dax Riggs to perform at Frankie's

1/31/2008

Want to know what Dax Riggs sounds like?

Check out the title of his 2007 release: "We Sing of Only Blood or Love." Or how about the first song on the disc: "Demon Tied to a Chair in My Brain." Or this one: "Didn't Know Yet, What I'd Know When I Was Bleedin.'•"

Dark, certainly. But also creative, bluesy, and earthy. Kind of like Nick Cave meets Led Zeppelin and records White Stripes songs while channeling the spirit of John Lee Hooker.

You can hear for yourself tomorrow night when the 35-year-old Indiana native and rock veteran plays Frankie's.

He was in three bands - Agents of Oblivion, Deadboy & the Elephantmen, and the influential sludge-metal band Acid Bath - before deciding to record under his own name.

Despite the subject matter and his metal history, "We Sing of Only Blood or Love" is pretty accessible stuff for anyone accustomed to bluesy hard rock and relentless darkness.

Frankie's Inner City is at 308 Main St. in East Toledo. Doors will open at 9 p.m. tomorrow and tickets are $10 and available only at the door. Information: 419-693-5300.
