Russo scholarship benefit slated

The Toledo area jazz community is coming together to honor Mary Ann Russo. The evening, titled Song for Our Sister, takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. June 29 in the Rouge Bistro on Holland-Sylvania Road. Her life-long career as a highly respected jazz vocalist will be celebrated with performances by area musicians and vocalists. A special menu will be available. A donation of $10 at the door will be used to create a scholarship in Russo's name for aspiring vocal students from the Toledo School for the Arts.

Adrian's Croswell Opera House will open 1776 on July 4 as the second entry in its three-summer musical season. The Tony Award-winner is about the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Curtain time opening night will be 7 p.m. due to the July 4th holiday. Other curtain times are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday through July 13. Tickets are still available for Country Concert in Fort Loramie, Ohio. Scheduled July 10 are Heidi Newfield, Bomshel, Neal McCoy and Travis Tritt. Performing July 11 will be Lady Antebellum, Jake Owen, Blaine Larsen, Tracy Lawrence, and Kenny Chesney. Taking the stage July 12 will be Billy Ray Cyrus, the Beach Boys, Kellie Pickler, the Lost Trailers, Rodney Atkins, Josh Turner, and Trace Adkins. Performing on July 13, the final day, will be Jason Michael Carroll, Blackhawk, Chase Mitchell, Taylor Swift, and Phil Vassar.

Recording artist J Moss will be the headline performer at a free Adoption Celebration Concert at 7 p.m. June 27 in Friendship Baptist Church, 5301 Nebraska Ave. Sponsored by the Lucas County Children Services and WIMX-FM, the concert hopes to generate awareness of the need for adoptive homes for Lucas County children. The Lucas County Fair will host The Charlie Daniels Band at 8 p.m. July 25 and Neal McCoy at 8 p.m. July 26. Tickets for each concert are $25. Information and tickets: www.lucascountyfair.com.

A Country Jamboree Under the Tent is scheduled from 1 p.m. to midnight June 28 at the Whitehouse Waterville Moose Lodge, 11900 Jeffers Rd., Grand Rapids, Ohio.
