Museum plans lecture, workshops, and teas

Six painters who use the classical techniques of old master s realism continue their exhibit through Saturday at Inside Angles Custom Framing and Gallery, 909 South McCord Rd. in Holland. Sue Sylvester, who studied the method for five years at Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore and teaches in her home, combines her paintings with those of five of her students: Marcia Sands, Barbie Andrews, Janet Snyder, Debbie Teague, and Bob Kulwicki.

Amy Gilman, associate curator of modern and contemporary art at the Toledo Museum of Art, will discuss the right time to acquire a contemporary work of art at 7 p.m. July 11 in the museum.

Also, two-hour workshops to make glass flowers, tiles, and swizzle stix will be offered July 11, 18, and 25 in the early evening in the museum s Glass Pavilion. Cost is $50.

And afternoon teas will be hosted in the museum s Green Room from noon to 5 p.m. July 11 and 25. The teas include finger sandwiches and bite-sized desserts. Cost is $20. Information: 419-254-5771.

Painted glass by Tammy Espinoza will be displayed tomorrow through the end of the month in Downtown Latte, 44 South St. Clair St. A reception will be noon to 3 p.m. July 12.

Deborah Bewley, Audrey Gentieu, and Philip Hazard have pieces at the Parkwood Gallery, 1838 Parkwood Ave., through Aug. 1. They ll be feted at a 6 to 8 p.m. reception July 11. Hours at the gallery are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

About 20,000 people attended last weekend s Crosby Arts Festival, despite intermittent showers. The best-in-show award went to graphics artist Jenny Pope from Ithaca, N.Y. First-place ribbons went to Richard Aerni of Rochester, N.Y., for ceramics; Verne Jidong Yan of Toronto for fiber; Barry Davis of Celina, Ohio, for glass; A.B. Word of Kirby, Wyo., for graphics; Molly Strader of Bloomington, Ind., for jewelry; James Parker of Clarion, Pa., for mixed media; Marjolyn Van Der Hart of Toronto for painting; Daniel Powers of Dayton for photography; David Bryce of North Egremont, Mass., for sculpture, and Andrew Pauken of Holland for wood.

America at Play, paintings of American athletes and the places they play will be featured Monday through Aug. 18 in the MMK Gallery, 20 North St. Clair St.
