Bruckner's massive No. 5 at Rosery

10/23/2008

The Toledo Symphony and Rosary Cathedral will collaborate in presenting Bruckner's Symphony No. 5 in B flat major, a special performance at 4 p.m. Nov. 2 in the cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd. Principal conductor Stefan Sanderling will lead the orchestra in the massive work, the only piece on the program. Like all but the ninth symphony, this work has four movements and represents the composer's mastery of counterpoint. This is the fifth season the Toledo Symphony has performed one of the Bruckner masterpieces. "I think it is the most well-crafted of all the Bruckner symphonies," noted Sanderling, of the work finished in 1876. This will be the first time the Toledo Symphony has performed it.

General admission tickets are $35 in advance at 419-246-8000 or at the door.
