Rat Pack tribute coming to Tiffin
4/30/2009Back in the 1960s, the Rat Pack was the ultimate expression of sophistication. Frank Sinatra and his pals often were in the entertainment headlines, for both their musical and extracurricular exploits.
Their Las Vegas act was the stuff of legend, which led Sandy Hackett, the son of comedian Buddy Hackett, to create a tribute show around the friends. That show, The Rat Pack is Back, is touring the United States and stops Saturday in Tiffin.
Clowning around and presenting a collection of hits, including "That's Amore," "What Kind of Fool Am I?" "Mr. Bojangles," and "Fly Me to the Moon," will be David DeCosta as Sinatra, Kyle Diamond as Sammy Davis, Jr., Mickey Joseph as Joey Bishop, and Drew Anthony as Dean Martin.
Some of the humor will be slightly off-color, and some jokes will have racial overtones, a theme from which Davis never shied.
"The Rat Pack is Back" is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Ritz Theatre, 30 South Washington St., Tiffin. Tickets range from $25 to $60. Information: 419-448-8544 or www.ritztheatre.org.
Fort Findlay Playhouse finishes its season with the musical revue Pump Boys and Dinettes.
The show has no plot, according to Steve Froelich of the playhouse. The scenes in the gas station, where the boys pump gas and talk about fixing Uncle Bob's Winnebago, and the Double Cupp restaurant, where the Cupp sisters cook and flirt, are little more than introductions to a series of songs that evoke life in a small town.
Directed by Lindsay Taylor, the cast includes Patrick Davis, Scott Edmondson, Ryan Parker, Coy Schlumbohm, Nancy Williams Shuffle, and Cathy Williams. The band consists of Edmondson, Matt Walker, and Laura Briggs.
"Pump Boys and Dinettes" opens in the Fort Findlay Playhouse, 300 West Sandusky St., Findlay. Performances are at 8 p.m. today-Saturday, May 7-9, and May 14 and 15. Matinees are at 5 p.m. Sunday and May 10. Tickets are $15 and are available through Findlay's Arts Partnership, 419-422-4624.
•3B Productions presents Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown at 8 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in the Millennium Theater at Maumee Valley Country Day School, 1715 South Reynolds Rd. The musical revue, directed by Joe Barton, features Sebastian Adams, Courtney Altenburg, Tim Bruno, Libby Call, Craig Cousino, Michael Del Vecchio, Joe Dennehy, Stephanie Stephan Dennehy, Jarrod Goad, Carissa McCurdy, Nicole Navarre, and Sarah Pettee. •More than 40 northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan youngsters ages 4 to 18, plus some parents and grandparents, will present The Sound of Music in the Maumee High School Center for Performing Arts, 1147 Saco St., Maumee. Produced by Theatre Kidz, the show will be co-directed by Jon Smith, founder of Theatre Kidz, Joseph Jackson, and Robert Lynn.
