Brad Paisley may play in Toledo in June

Brad Paisley says on his Web site that he'll be in Toledo on June 4.

Area Brad Paisley fans by now have June 4 circled on their calendars. That's the day the popular country singer is scheduled to perform at Lucas County Arena, according to Paisley's Web site, bradpaisley.musiccitynetworks.com.

For now, though, his Toledo concert status remains "unconfirmed," said Al Purdie, marketing manager for Lucas County Arena and SeaGate Convention Centre.

"We are actually working on it and hopefully we'll have an announcement soon ... by next week sometime at the latest," he said. Ticket prices will be announced then too.

It's not uncommon for a performer to announce a concert date on his or her Web site before a venue does. But in rare cases, that information proves to be premature when the artist and venue cannot come to an agreement, Purdie said.

"There's still a contract and stuff like that that needs to be signed on our end; we definitely cannot say prematurely something is going to happen without a contract," he said.

Known for his skillful guitar work and such hits as "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)," "Wrapped Around," "Waitin' on a Woman," and "Then," Paisley is touring with his eighth record, "American Saturday Night," which was released in June.

The 48th Ann Arbor Film Festival is under way.

The AAFF started yesterday and runs through Sunday, presenting 170 films from more than 20 countries.

A highlight of the festival will be multiple tribute screenings of the films of Kenneth Anger. The avant-garde icon also will be interviewed live on stage Saturday at the Michigan Theater.

Figure skater Evan Lysacek and Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger emerged as early favorites on the new season of Dancing With the Stars.

Scherzinger earned the highest score Monday, 25 points out of 30, for a Viennese waltz that judge Bruno Tonioli called "a performance of sparkling finesse." Lysacek's waltz landed him in second place with 23 points.

Scherzinger and Lysacek are among 11 celebrity contestants vying for the mirrorball trophy on the 10th season of the hit ABC show.

Astronaut Buzz Aldrin earned the night's lowest score, collecting 14 points out of 30 for his cha-cha. The judges were reluctant to criticize the 80-year-old war veteran, but Tonioli summed it up by saying: "It looked like you still had your moon boots on."

All will dance again on March 29, and one will be cut from the contest on March 30.

American Idol contestant Lacey Brown says her last performance fell in the middle of the pack and that's why she was sent home.

The 24-year-old from Amarillo, Texas, was voted off the Fox show last week after singing a lackluster rendition of the Rolling Stones' Ruby Tuesday. She says her performance landed her in the middle of the group, which she classifies as a risky place for a contestant.

Brown says a contestant needs to stand out with an amazing performance or be the underdog to get votes from viewers.

The judges also decided not to use on Brown their save tactic, a one-time decision to keep a contestant from going home.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jerry Springer is reinventing himself again, this time as host of a dating game series.

"Baggage," debuting next month on the Game Show Network, gives three contestants the chance to win the eye of a prospective date. The hitch: Contestants have to reveal their faults and foibles.

Players will carry suitcases onstage to represent the baggage they'll confess to and defend, GSN said Tuesday. Among the planned suitors: a shoplifter, a woman who gets advice from psychics and a control freak.

Springer called "Baggage" a family friendly show that's "just fun and lighthearted. There's no life-changing issues."

"I'm like the crazy old uncle," he said. "People feel comfortable telling me their secrets, that I won't be judgmental."

After the three contestants are pared down to one, the potential date must own up to a fault of his or her own.

Springer, 66, whose varied credits include his long-running talk show, "The Jerry Springer Show," as well as "America's Got Talent," "Dancing With the Stars" and a Broadway turn last year in the musical "Chicago," was to begin taping "Baggage" this week.

"I just keep finding jobs," said Springer. "I'm really lucky and I know that. ... Being a host is what I'm comfortable doing. I've been doing it forever, joking around with guests, having fun."

The half-hour series debuts April 19. It will air at 6:30 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday.
