Johnny Rzeznik (vocals, guitar), Mike Malinin (drums) and Robby Tackacs (bass, vocals) make up the band The Goo Goo Dolls, who will perform Oct. 6 at Stranahan Theater.

The Eagles will perform Oct. 20 at the Huntington Center.

Toledo used to be a fly-over city for the Eagles, one of the most successful groups in rock history, as the band played larger venues in larger cities. But next month the hall-of-fame band will make its first-ever stop in town when the Long Road from Eden tour lands at the Huntington Center.

It's a rare opportunity for fans to hear such trademark Eagles tunes as "Hotel California," "One of these Nights," "Desperado," and "Take It Easy" performed live, as the band does not tour that often. Fans jumped at the chance, scarfing up all but a few single seats for the Oct. 20 concert.

The $98.1 million Huntington Center, which opened a year ago, has changed the road map for touring groups, offering a venue that is big enough and modern enough to attract some top-tier artists.

Country star Gary Allen, for example, will play the arena with Randy Houser and Jarrod Nieman on Oct. 7, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra returns to Huntington Center for the second straight year to perform its unique mix of heavy metal and classical music, set against a dramatic backdrop of laser lights and fireballs, for two holiday shows on Nov. 11.

Two other regular holiday favorites are coming to the area: Jim Brickman, playing a pops concert with the Toledo Symphony at Stranahan Theater on Nov. 27, and Lorie Line, who visits the Franciscan Theatre and Conference Center in Sylvania on Nov. 12.

Other major rock shows heading this way include the Goo Goo Dolls and Styx, performing at Stranahan Theater on Oct. 6 and Nov. 6, respectively, and punk rock band the Misfits, who will give fans a chance to get ready for Halloween when they play at Frankie's on Oct. 30.

Other notable rockers coming to the area include metal-rap band Papa Roach, touring with Skillet, at the University of Toledo's Savage Arena on Oct. 13, and the Tom Tom Club, featuring former members of the Talking Heads, at Mickey Finn's Pub on Sept. 29.

Folk icon Gordon Lightfoot will play an Oct. 10 concert at the Ritz Theatre in Tiffin, a venue that also will feature LeAnn Rimes on Nov. 19; Michael Bolton on March 19, and Dionne Warwick on April 9.

Branford Marsalis, the jazz saxophonist and a member of the renowned Marsalis jazz family, will perform at Bowling Green State University on Oct. 7.

While Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Journey, Motley Crue, Poison, and Kiss won't be playing Toledo soon, fans can get a taste of these rock giants when a series of tribute bands perform at the Omni in October and November.
