The first public event in Bowling Green State University’s new arena will be an Aug. 13 concert by Grammy-nominated Toledo Christian band Sanctus Real and Dove Award winner Tenth Avenue North.

The $36 million Stroh Center will open this summer, replacing Anderson Arena as the university’s main arena.

“We are excited to welcome Sanctus Real and Tenth Avenue North to BGSU and to the Stroh Center. With their ties to our northwest Ohio community and their popularity among several age groups, this is the right way to showcase our new building and our campus to a wide audience,” BGSU Athletics Director Greg Christopher said in a news release.

Tickets go on sale through the BGSU ticket office on March 28 and will cost $20. Youth and BGSU students can purchase tickets for $15 and groups of 10 or more can get special $12 tickets. Walk-up prices on the day of the concert will be $25. Tickets can be purchased on BGSUFalcons.com or by calling 877-BGSU TICKET.

Sanctus Real formed in Toledo in 1996 and features Matt Hammitt (lead vocals and guitar), Chris Rohman (lead guitar), Mark Graalman (drums), Dan Gartley (bass), and Pete Prevost (guitar). They’re up for Grammy Award Sunday in the Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album category for their 2010 release, “Pieces Of A Real Heart.”
