Big band schedule on tap

Another summer of outdoor big band dancing will kick off soon as the Johnny Knorr Orchestra gears up for its annual series of concerts. This is the 51st year for the band, which now is led by Jerry Knorr, Johnny's son.

The concerts start June 5 with a 7 to 8:30 p.m. show at Christ Presbyterian Church, 4225 West Sylvania Ave., to celebrate Johnny Knorr's 90th birthday.

The rest of the summer shows in the area are:

June 18 -- Centennial Terrace, 5773 Centennial Rd, 7:30-10:30 p.m., foxtrot, waltz, Latin, and swing dancing. Admission: $10.

July 2 -- Centennial Terrace, 7:30-10:30 p.m., a tribute to the armed forces. Admission $10 and half price for veterans.

July 16 -- Centennial Terrace, 7:30-10:30 p.m., remembering Glenn Miller. Admission $10.

Aug. 3 -- Centennial Terrace, 7:30-10:30 p.m., foxtrot, waltz, Latin, and swing dancing. Admission: $10.

Aug. 13 -- Centennial Terrace, 7:30-11 p.m., remembering big band vocalists. Admission: $5.

Aug. 18 -- St. Mary's Park in Monroe, 7-9 p.m., free concert in the park.

Aug. 27 -- Centennial Terrace, 7:30-10:30 p.m., remembering the swing and sweet bands. Admission: $10.

Sept. 10 -- Centennial Terrace, 7:30-10:30 p.m., roast dance, bonfires, and casual dance. Admission: $10.

Sept. 12 -- Heartland of Perrysburg, 2-3:30 p.m., free concert for Grandparents Day.
