Counting Crows to perform in Sylvania

The rock group Counting Crows.

Counting Crows will perform at Centennial Terrace June 16 and they'll have some special mystery guests in tow.

Billed as the Outlaws Road Show Tour, the concert is expected to include three more bands and a musical guest specially invited by Crows' frontman Adam Duritz. The supporting acts have yet to be announced.

Counting Crows, probably best known for the 1993 hit "Mr. Jones," will be touring to support their new covers album "Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Summer Vacation.)"

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. They will be available at the Stranahan Theater box office, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd., at all Ticketmaster outlets, at ticketmaster.com, and by phone at 800-745-3000. A limited number of VIP tickets is available for $71.50. Orchestra seats are $61.50 and general admission tickets are $39.50.

‘The City Dark'

The University of Toledo's Ritter Planetarium examines light pollution and the difficulty to find darkness in the new documentary The City Dark.

The film will screen at 7 and 9 p.m. each Saturday in May.

"Astronomy depends on darkness," said Michael Cushing, assistant professor of astronomy and director of Ritter Planetarium. "Anyone who has been camping or witnessed the night sky away from the glare of civilization has seen just how much more vibrant the stars are even with the naked eye."

Projected on to the front of the dome, the 89-minute film is by the co-creator of the documentary King Corn.

Tickets for The City Dark are $7 for adults and $5 for children 4 to 12, senior citizens, and UT faculty, staff, and students, and free for children 3 and younger. E! is growing

The E! Entertainment network has expansion plans that include a new music series from American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe, a reality series with the oldest member of the Jonas Brothers, and a talk show starring Whitney Cummings.

E! is also sticking with what works, announcing last week a deal to keep the Kardashian reality TV empire in-house for three years.

The most high-profile attempt to broaden E!'s offerings comes on July 9 with the premiere of Lythgoe's Opening Act. Each week producers will pick an unknown musical act that has posted work online, surprising the artist with the chance to open a concert for acts like Rod Stewart, Brad Paisley, and Nicki Minaj. The series, which features Mary J. Blige, follows the acts as they prepare and execute the potential career-changing gigs.

In August, E! premieres Married to Jonas, featuring Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasa, a hairstylist in training who met the musician while they were both vacationing in the Bahamas. They married in 2009, and the series depicts the couple juggling work and family and is being produced by Ryan Seacrest.

Cummings' series will follow The Soup on Wednesday nights later this year. Titled Love You, Mean It with Whitney Cummings, it's a talk show with celebrity guests and sidekick Julian McCullough.
