Tribute concert to honor Johnny Knorr

The late Johnny Knorr, bandleader and founder of the Johnny Knorr Orchestra, will be honored with a tribute concert Sunday.

A special concert Sunday to remember longtime Toledo-area band leader Johnny Knorr will be part of this season's series of shows by the Johnny Knorr Orchestra.

Mr. Knorr, the founder of the orchestra, died last year and it is now being led by his son Jerry Knorr.

The "Remembering Johnny Knorr" concert will be presented Sunday at Christ Presbyterian Church from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The church is at 4225 W. Sylvania Ave. and admission is free.

The rest of the season will be performances of music from the '30s and ' 40s:

Saturday -- 7:30-10:30 p.m., Centennial Terrace, 5773 Centennial Rd., foxtrot, waltz, swing and Latin. $10 per person.

June 20 -- 7-10 p.m., Centennial Terrace, foxtrot, waltz, swing and Latin. $10 per person.

June 30 -- 7:30-10:30 p.m., Centennial Terrace, "A Tribute to the Armed Forces." $10 per person and half price for veterans. A free dance lesson will be given at 7 p.m. by Paulette's Studio of Dance.

July 14 -- 7:30-10:30 p.m., Centennial Terrace, foxtrot, waltz, swing and Latin. $10 per person. A free dance lesson will be given at 7 p.m. by Paulette's Studio of Dance.

Aug. 10 -- 7:30-11:30 p.m., St. Joseph Shine Family Center in Brooklyn, Mich. $17.50 per person.

Aug. 16 -- 7-9 p.m., St. Mary's Park, Monroe. Free concert.

Aug. 18 -- 7:30-11 p.m., Centennial Terrace, foxtrot, waltz, swing and Latin. $10 per person. A free dance lesson will be given at 7 p.m. by Paulette's Studio of Dance.

Sept. 8 -- 7:30-10:30 p.m., Centennial Terrace, roast dance, bon fires, casual dress. $5 per person. A free dance lesson will be given at 7 p.m. by Paulette's Studio of Dance.

Sept. 9 -- 2-3:30 p.m., Heartland of Perrysburg, 10540 Fremont Pike. Free concert for Grandparents Day.
