Crystal Bowersox has a new record deal with independent label Shanachie Records, which is known for world music, blues, jazz and acoustic folk.

The Elliston, Ohio, native and 2010 American Idol runner-up, had been on a subsidiary of Sony Records. Her first album, “Farmer’s Daughter” was released in 2011 and she told The Hollywood Reporter that she is hoping for a 2013 release for new material.

Bowersox now lives in Portland and she told The Blade earlier this year that she has been recording in New Mexico and working on new material. She also was a guest artist on Blues Traveler’s new disc and played a number of concerts this summer.

She announced the new label on her Facebook page Wednesday.

“I am so blessed to announce that I am the newest artist on Shanachie Entertainment’s roster! I am eternally grateful for my fans!” she wrote. “You are the people who have continuously and unconditionally believed in me and my music. You have made this all possible. I’m looking forward to the future, and to working with the good folk at Shanachie!”

Bowersox attended the Toledo School for the Arts and played frequently in northwest Ohio, most notably regularly at the Village Idiot in Maumee.

The Shanachie label also includes renowned artists such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and Ofra Haza. It was formed in New York in 1975 and has a diverse roster of groups and solo acts.
